In Memory of Basil "Chip" Holcomb


June 26, 1964 - November 18, 2017

Basil “Chip” Holcomb III, age 53, of Hayward, WI passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, WI.

Chip was born on June 26, 1964 in Hayward, WI the son of Basil and Carol (Fay) Holcomb Jr. He graduated from Hayward High School in 1982. Some of Chip’s jobs included working at Telemark, truck driving for Stone Lake Lumber and Cable Lumber, driving dump truck for Thompson Sand & Gravel, a care taker for Dan Jeffries and recently driving for Handilift. Chip enjoyed anything that went fast which included his Z28 Camaro, 1978 Corvette pace car, Harley Davidson motorcycles, snowmobiles and ATV’s. His passion was flying planes and studying about them. He enjoyed playing darts, camping, fishing, kayaking, being a sound man for local bands, and listening to 1980’s rock. He loved his family and was very proud of his daughters. Chip will be remembered for his big heart and caring ways.

Chip is survived by his kindred soul and fiancé, Kathy Jeffries; daughters, Linda (Justin) Bretall of Mountain Home, ID, Misti (Kelly Knudson) Holcomb of Fargo, ND, and Sarah Jeffries of Chippewa Falls, WI; one grandchild on the way; father, Basil (Judy) Holcomb; sister, Angie Holcomb of Hayward; brother-in-law, Mike Nichols of Hayward; nephew, Mikey Nichols Jr.; and mother of his children, Bonnie Dillon.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother, Carol Ahrenkiel, and his son, Dan Jeffries.

A memorial service will be held for Chip at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25th, at the Hayward Veterans Center with Pastor Tim Hagberg officiating. A time of gathering will follow the service at the veteran’s center. Interment will be in the spring at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Cable, WI.
