In Memory of Bruce K. West


July 29, 1939  -  February 26, 2018

Bruce K. West, age 78, of Hayward, WI died at his home Monday, February 26, 2018.

Bruce Kent West was born July 29, 1939 in Grantsburg, WI the son of Walter and Sarah (Hawkshead) West. Bruce attended school in Hayward, graduating from high school in 1958. He continued his education in Madison, studying agriculture and attended Dale Carnegie School of Business. Bruce learned the dairy business working side by side with his dad. In 1953 they purchased City Dairy, which became West Hayward Dairy. On April 27, 1963, Bruce was joined in marriage to Janice M. Brunberg. They raised their family and continued working in the Hayward community until Bruce sold the dairy in 2005.

An active community member, he was on the City of Hayward Fire Department for 18 years, served on the city council, was a member of the Odd Fellows, Lions, and Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered his time with Fishing Has No Boundaries. Bruce was instrumental in the building of WHSM Radio and served as a board member for 10 years. He cherished his time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janice; three children, Shelly (Scott) Orton of Hayward, WI, Brett West of Niagara, WI, and Diana (Mark) Kauffman of Sparta, WI; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Jane (Mike) West-Delgado, Santa Ynez, CA, Harry (Kathy) West, Tucson, AZ, Catherine (Steven) Lynch, Hayward, WI, Patricia Minarich, Oakbrook, IL, Wayne (Marlys) West, Coon Rapids, MN.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry West.

Private services will be held in the spring with interment in the Veteran’s Section of the Hayward Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus or Fishing Has No Boundaries.
