In Memory of Dorothy Mae Becker

March 7, 1917 - November 24, 2017

Dorothy Becker, age 100, of Hayward, WI, and formerly of Minneapolis and Minnetonka, MN, died peacefully on November 24, 2017, after a remarkably vibrant life.

“Dottie” was preceded in death by her husband, Art, three sisters, two brothers, and her mother, Francis Plantz, and survived by children Art (Carol) of Pillager, MN, Gretchen Semler (Don) of Stone Lake, WI, and Ruth of Palm Desert, CA, and grandchildren, Scott (Natalie), Steve (Marnie), Aaron Pyles (Carri Stuhr), Carolyn Sakstrup (Kai), and great grandchildren Bryce, Libby, Seth, Juhl Sakstrup and Haakon Sakstrup.

Dottie was born in a cabin in Bridger, Montana on March 7, 1917, and took a train with her family to move to Minneapolis as a young child. She was a 90+ year member of First Christian Church and a 1935 graduate of Minneapolis South High. Dottie was a life-long volunteer, including being an original member of the Board that built the Minneapolis Children’s Hospital, where she rocked babies until she was 75. She also volunteered with the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and at the First Christian Church Residence.

Also known as “Herman” to close friends and family, Dottie had a joyful, generous spirit and wonderful sense of humor, right up until her final days. She and Art enjoyed 63 loving years together, in which they were always gracious hosts who knew how to create fun in any situation. Dottie was a diehard Minnesota North Stars, Twins and Vikings fan, and an avid bowler, bridge player, music lover and host of countless fish fries at Maple Lake.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017, 11:00 AM at the Hayward United Methodist Church in Hayward, WI. A time of gathering with family and friends will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church.
