In Memory of Elaine Bernice Seifert

Elaine B. Seifert, age 97, of Stone Lake died Monday, November 6, 2017 at Waters Edge Care Center in Hayward.

Elaine Bernice Overby was born on October 9, 1920 in Milaca, MN the daughter of Arne and Hattie (Anderson) Overby. Her early childhood was spent in Chicago, moving to Sister Bay, WI when she was about 11 years old. Elaine lived on the family farm and also worked as a nanny for her aunt and uncle. Upon graduation from high school she moved to Chicago and worked at the 1st National Bank of Chicago. During WWII Elaine helped make bandages for the Red Cross. She worked for her room and board by keeping house and cooking for the family she lived with. Elaine married Rudolph Seifert, a grade school acquaintance in December 1945 shortly before Rudy was discharged from the Navy. They had three children. While living in the Chicago suburbs Elaine was active in the school PTA. The family moved to Stone Lake where they bought a resort on Sand Lake in 1960. Elaine and Rudy operated the Sand Lake Lodge Keyhole Bar until 1969. She joined the VFW Auxiliary in 1973. She made quilts which were donated to the King’s Home for Veterans. Elaine took her turn making sandwiches and cake to serve at the VFW meetings. She donated blood to the Red Cross Drives from march 1974 to November 1992, eventually donating 31 pints. Elaine was an active member of Heart of the Lakes homemaker’s club for over 60 years serving as county and Stone Lake Treasurer. She has made many lap robes for nursing homes and baby quilts for the local hospitals. She was an avid gardener and rug weaver and braider. Over the years Elaine has donated many hours of service to civic and volunteer activities.

She is survived by her son Edward Seifert of Stone Lake; daughters Karen (James Sr.) Young of Stone Lake, Linda Seifert of Cedar, MN; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; brothers James Overby of Lakewood, WI, Donald (Diane) Overby of Sister Bay; sister Harriet Overby of Sister Bay; many nephews & nieces.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and three brothers.

The funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward. Rev. Timothy Young will officiate and special music provided by Rhonda, John and Derrick Johnson. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward. Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.

Casket bearers will be Derrick Johnson, John Johnson, Jake Myer, Aaron Perkins, Ron Perkins, Sean Seifert and Tyler Seifert.
