In Memory of Elizabeth K. Smith

February 13, 1936 - March 9, 2018

Elizabeth “Kitty” Smith, age 82, of Puyallup, WA and formerly of Barnes, WI passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, WA.

Elizabeth Kathleen was born February 13, 1936 in Hackensack, NJ, the daughter of Elmer and Ella (Raskin) Walters.  She was raised in Hackensack and graduated from high school there.  After her schooling she worked for the telephone company for a time before marrying Bruce E. Anderson and moving to Wisconsin.  Elizabeth was then a homemaker and raised her two daughters in West Allis, Oak Creek and then Cable, WI.  While living in Cable she worked as a housekeeper at various resorts in the area and substitute mail carrier for several years as well.

In August of 1992, Elizabeth was joined in marriage to Richard E. Smith in Barnes, WI. Elizabeth was a member of the Barnes Homemakers, the Barnes VFW Auxiliary and volunteered on the election board.  Richard passed away in 2005 and Elizabeth moved to New Jersey, before settling in Puyallup, WA. She became very active in her senior housing communities where she was a part of the welcoming committee and leader of an exercise class.  She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing cards, crocheting, knitting and many other crafts.

Elizabeth is survived by her two daughters, Lori (Theron) Allar of Graham, WA, Lisa (Rob) Sowieja of Madison, WI; four grandchildren Ryan (Valerie) Allar, Josh (Janice) Allar, both of Washington state, Matt (Debbie) Schafer and Elizabeth “Izzy” (Felipe) Ruiz both of Wisconsin; eleven great grandchildren; two siblings, Elmer “Buddy” Walter and Naomi “Noni” (Artie) Gallow, both of Little Ferry, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; and her step-father who helped raise her, John Cividanes.

A funeral service celebrating Elizabeth’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, at Solon Springs Funeral Home with Pastor Ben Kidder officiating.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.  Interment will be in the Barnes Memorial Cemetery in Barnes, WI.
