In Memory of James F. Gray

February 3, 1928  -  March 8, 2018

James F. Gray, age 90, of Hayward, WI passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Hayward Health Services. 

James Floyd Gray was born February 3, 1928 on the family farm near Cable, WI, the son of Floyd and Violet (Kohl) Gray.  He was raised in Cable and graduated from high school there.  Jim joined the U.S. Coast Guard and then joined the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.  On December 28, 1952, Jim was joined in marriage to Frances “Jean” Pederson in Northlake, IL.  After his time in the service he returned to Cable where he began his working career.  Jim owned several businesses and worked in several occupations throughout his life and his work took him to Oregon and Illinois but he always returned to Cable.  Some of the businesses Jim owned included the Stone Hut Bar in Seeley, Jack Pine Acres Trailer Park in Cable, an appliance sales and repair store in Cable and a laundromat in Grand View, WI.  Jim volunteered as a driver for Bayfield County for over 20 years where he drove others who needed help.  He was a member of the Veterans for Foreign War Post in Barnes and the United Church of Christ in Cable.  

Jim is survived by his three children, James R. Gray of Eau Claire, WI, Greg (Donna) Gray of Cable, WI, Cindy Gray of Minong, WI; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; two brothers and a half sister. 

A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Cable United Church of Christ with Pastor Phil Milam officiating.   A time of gathering with family and friends will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on the 23rd at the church.   Interment will be in the Drummond Cemetery in the summer.
