In Memory of John Witt

July 3, 1932 - December 8, 2017

John J. Witt, age 85, of Hayward, WI passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Waters Edge Care Center in Hayward.

John Jerome was born July 3, 1932 in Chicago, IL the son of Jerome and Faye (Alterman) Witt. He was raised on the north side of Chicago and graduated from high school there. After high school John was invited to try out for the Milwaukee Brewers (Braves) baseball team. He was asked to return for spring break but before that could happen he was drafted by the United States Air Force, where subsequently he was injured in boot camp and later received an honorable discharge. With his “baseball dreams” ended John then went to work for United Airlines in the Chicago O’Hare Airport. On April 18, 1959, John was joined in marriage to Mary Rolfs at St. John’s Cathedral in Milwaukee, WI. John and Mary resided in the Chicago area where John continued work as a supervisor with United Airlines and later in in=flight services. He retired after 35 years with United and then moved with Mary to their home on Teal Lake in Spider Lake Township, WI. John continued to work part time with the Hayward Airport for 16 years. He was an avid Chicago White Sox, and Green Bay Packer fan.

John is survived by his two sons, Jerome (Tina) Witt of Spring Grove, IL, Terrance (Kathleen) Witt of Cambridge, WI; four granddaughters, Brittany, Hailey, Serenity, Samantha; and one great grandson, Jackson. The day after John’s passing the family also welcomed Olivia (granddaughter) into their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; and one sister, Anne Anthony. A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 27th, 2018 at the Spider Lake Church with Pastor Gary Hilgendorf officiating.
