In Memory of Thomas John Olson

March 30, 1931 - January 8, 2018

Thomas John Olson, age 86, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, January 8, 2018 at his residence in Winter, WI. He was born March 30, 1931 in Rice Lake, WI, the son of Alvin and Myrtle (Swcina) Olson. He was united in marriage to Violet M. Strouf on July 29, 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church in Winter.

After graduating from Draper High School, Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked for the Milwaukee Road Railroad and later attended college at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and University of Wisconsin Superior where he received his bachelor’s degree. He later earned his master’s degree from University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Tom taught school for 33 years in Winter, Glidden, Superior, Bayfield, Oregon, and Prentice. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching and the highlight of his career was the opportunity to teach Driver’s Education. Tom enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and canoeing. He was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Post 303.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Violet of Winter; his sister, Patricia Rogers; and many dear family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his siblings, Sid, Lila, DeWayne and Maxine Olson, and Bill Rogers.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church, South Main Street in Winter, WI, where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service. Pastor Rob Biller to officiate. Full military honors will be accorded at the church by the Wisconsin Military Honors Program. Interment will follow in Winter Cemetery.
