In Memory of William Moreland Richey
November 20, 1951 - December 09, 2017
William Moreland Richey was born November 20, 1951 in Beech Grove, IN the son of Gilbert and Mary (Moreland) Richey. He was raised in Hudson, WI graduating class of 1969. He then attended college in River Falls until he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Upon his return, he traveled the US before settling in Trego, WI where he built a home for himself and his family. At a very young age he began work as a farm hand and always enjoyed any work related to farming. He then went into the logging business for many years until he was inspired to continue his education at Lac Courte Oreilles Community College and the College of Saint Scholastica where he obtained his nursing degree and become a Registered Nurse. In 1996, he decided to once again start his own business, Northwest Wisconsin Enterprises and took on dealership and installation of outdoor woodstoves, and obtained his HVAC certification. He longed for his family to join him in his entrepreneurship endeavors and started the Trego Mercantile. He was a member of 4-H, Northwoods Figure Skating Club, served as Secretary for Vietnam Veterans Administration Wisconsin State Council, AODA Counselor, and certified open water scuba diver. A unique, intelligent, hardworking, and strong man of character, he possessed many gifts and talents; and with great passion, he gave of himself to help his fellow man in any way he could.
When he wasn’t sacrificing himself for the needs of others, what he enjoyed most was being with his children and grandchildren, exploring new places, being outdoors, and providing for his family with a huge garden, and anything related to farming. He wanted his body to remain on his property, his body to be given to the coyotes (an impossible request). His children are doing their best to meet his wishes.
His legacy will live on forever with his family: Loving partner Connie Habeck; son, Jacob (Mary) Richey; daughters Angela (John) Bodzislaw, Elizabeth Richey, and Laura Richey; his 5 joy giving grandchildren, Audrianna Bodzislaw, Colton Richey, Avalyn Bodzislaw, Landon Richey, and Clayton Richey; mother Mary Moreland Richey; brothers, John (Robin) Richey, Calvin Richey; sisters, Margaret Richey, Sara Krager, Ann (Steve) Allen, Molly Ponce de Leon; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his father Gilbert and brother Stephen Richey.
Tribal Memorial Rites will be held beginning at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward.
